Crompton Versus Stephens

What do you do now? The debate rages in big orange country whether to start Jonathan Crompton or Nick Stephens at q.b. this Saturday against Northern Illinois. I believe that Tennessee will go with Stephens based on the performance of Crompton thus far into the 2008 campaign. What do you have to lose? Give the ball to Stephens and see if the " gunslinger " can do anything with the Volunteer offense that has been anemic so far in 08!

Do whatever you have to do in order to make the offense at least somewhat dangerous! Play Stephens,or line up Gerald Jones at q.b. more often, or let B.J Coleman have his shot at the q.b. position. The bottom line is Tennessee must try something different in order to try to ignite a very stale offense!

The Northern Illinois game is the perfect time to try to institute change within the program for the remainder of the 08 season. Lets hope that the change will bring about positive results for the rest of the year! The year is one third over and Tennessee must regroup in a big way to salvage anything of this year!

I believe we have seen enough of Crompton thus far in 08 , and it is time to hand over the duties to Stephens, at least for this game and see what he can do! Surely, it cannot get any worse!

It can't get any worse at quarterback. At least we don't have last year's defense, or it would be REALLY ugly. I say if Stephens doesn't work out, we go with Coleman or let Gerald Jones actually throw the ball! Bless his heart, don't let Crompton back in the game unless we are way ahead.

Thanks rtt's big bro for your comments. I totally agree that it is time to let Stephens,Coleman, or Jones have their turn at the q.b. position. We know what we have in Crompton, and it is not pretty! I am sure Jonathan is a graet guy, but his performance thus far in 08 is the worst in my memory of Tennessee football history and that goes back to 1976!

That would be great, not graet. Sorry about that!

Lard ass fulmer and his lard ass staff is the problem. They've been there too long and feel like their jobs are safe. It gripes my ass to see Fumble Foster shucking and jiving on the sidelines after fumbling away and laughing unconcerned that he's cost us a game. That all traces back to the lack of discipline and coaching that our overweight head coach and defensive coach fail to instill. Desire and heart go a long way in college football and the Vols shown absolutely no heart or desire. Get rid of Fat Ass Fulmer and his whole Fat Ass Staff and lets turn it around. I can handle a loss...I can't handle not giving 110% every play. With our facilities and salaries we should compete for a Nat'l championship at least every 4 years. Fulmer and staff must go. Remember, for what we pay Fulmer and his stooges, we could have gotten Saban or Houston Nutt or any other top flight coach. Complacency will kill you. And what aren't we recruiting more TN boys? The players we have seem to view their time at UT as merely a stepping stone to the pros and have no state pride and making UT a winner. But it all starts with motivation, discipline, and preparation from the coaches. What we're got now are incapable of doing that. Kick Fulmer and Chavis and all the lard ass coaches to the curb. Better to start over than suffer through another mediocre season.

I Bleed Big Orange,

I agree that our coaching staff has fallen behind over the years in adjusting to schemes and personnel , but they should not be insulted with personal attacks on their girth! I am ready for a change, just like you, but we must not get to personal on our attacks of the staff, and program. Change is going to happen regardless. Thanks for your insight, and I agree with many of your comments, but lets not get to personal, even though it is hard not to when you are playing like we are! Thanks again for your post.

I hear ya Todd. You say you're TN football history goes back to 1976. Mine goes to 1951...I remember the teams of Jamie Rotella, Richmond Flowers, and so on and I've never seen a TN team in all those years that is so complacent about losing. The attitude I see is "Oh well, another game out of the way." I was taught that losing was the worst feeling possible and losing should make us mad, sad, and determined not to have that feeling again. Our current coaches are not instilling that attitude and haven't for several years. They're locked in to their inflated salaries and perks and feel like they've got it made. And then when he's questioned about the poor performance for Fulmer to cop an attitude, it's just too much, especially given the money he's paid (not earns)! Clean house and let's catch up to the Bamas and Floridas and Georgias (and Vandy's after today.) The girth of Phil and Chavis is just an indication of their lack of pride and discipline.
